As the second largest county in the State of Florida in terms over overall square mileage, Palm Beach County locations can be inconvenient for its residents if said residents are located on the opposite side of the county from the location they seek. In fact, Wellington, FL, is often considered to be out-of-the-way for many residents of eastern Palm Beach County (Boynton, Delray, Boca Raton, etc.). Because of this, Eagle Arts Academy founder Gregory Blount seeks to expand the school’s accessibility by adding another location to their repertoire.
Finding Ground in Boca Raton
Within east Boca Raton is a fully furnished 22,000 square foot building known as the Wayne Barton Study Center. Started in 1992, the Wayne Barton Study Center originated as an in-house program within a 600 sq. ft public housing center at the behest of then-police chief Wayne Barton. When the program quickly outgrew its accommodations, a building specifically designed for the program was built, becoming today’s Wayne Barton Study Center.
Wayne Barton started this program in order to better assist the local children within the community who were struggling academically, recreationally, and socially within an impoverished environment. Still active today, the study center boasts a variety of after-school activities, scholarships, volunteer opportunities, charity drives, and a summer camp.
Merging Two Programs Onto One Campus
However, because this fully furnished educational center isn’t in use during the school day, the Principal of Delray-based Atlantic Commercial Group, Inc., Gary Broidis, has agreed to sign a long-term lease with Eagle Arts Academy for use of the facilities as their Boca Raton campus. Ideally located just off of Federal Highway (US 1) and less than ¼ mile from Glades Road, this 2.5 acre location can easily serve as both a school campus and a study center for the youth of Palm Beach County.
The Boca Raton Campus is now accepting applications for Kindergarten through 6th grade and has openings for 278 students within the 2016-2017 school year.
